The information in the SHRM Certification Handbook will help you understand the process of developing the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams, the policies and procedures for administering the exams, as well as the steps you need to take to earn these two certifications, SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP®.
Exam Content outlines
The SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® certification exams are primarily based on the knowledge and competencies specified in the SHRM BASK®, the current best-practice standard for the HR profession.
The exam consists of two types of questions:
Knowledge Items, covering 3 domains: People, Organization, and Workplace. The specific content of these domains is defined in the Technical Knowledge competency section of the SHRM BASK
Situational Judgment Items, covering the knowledge, skills, and abilities specified in the Behavioral Competencies section of the SHRM BASK®
In addition to the official scored questions, the exam also includes a number of “research” questions that allow SHRM to continuously improve the quality of its exams. These questions are not scored.
